#15 - Mile 1.0

Norwood Cemetery

The cemetery has been at this location for over 50 years. A sign at the entrance says, ‘In memory of Tim’ a tribute to the son of a more recent generation of the family who donated the land. See it featured on the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway playing cards.

#15 - Mile 1.3

Rambling Roads

Previously a dairy farm, the farm became a ranch in 1950. It has been owned by the same family for generations. Drive by viewing only.

#15 - Mile 1.5

Piney Ridge Resort

Originally known as "Cap'n Dees", it was a camp for loggers in the early 1900s. Today Piney Ridge Lodge boasts an Historic Pub. Built during the Logging days of the Whitefish Chain, the Pub was built from trees that were saplings when George Washington was President. Square hewn logs and original chinking make the Pub a unique piece of Minnesota's logging history. A museum on site traces the resort history.

#15 - Mile 1.5

Heath's Resort

Started in the 1930s, the resort's current owners are the third generation. The original owners were well known fishing guides. The current generation of Heaths continue that tradition. It's the one place on the Whitefish Chain to rent ice fishing houses.

#15 - Mile 1.5

Heath Homestead

On the west side of C.S.A.H. 15 just north of the Piney Ridge Road is the Heath Homestead. This house was built in 1901. The Heath family still lives in the area.

#15 - Mile 2.3

Pine River

The main water artery into the Whitefish Chain, the Pine River flows into Upper Whitefish Lake just a few miles from this location. Travelers will appreciate the new bridge with the ‘view through’ sides. There is plenty of room to park and go exploring along the shore of the river; a good spot for a picnic and some family photos.

#15 - Mile 3.1

Driftwood Resort and Resort Museum

Continue on the road to Driftwood Resort, owned and operated by the Leagjeld family for the past 40 years. The American Plan resort includes a nine-hole golf course with all holes marked by Norwegian flags. The Minnesota Resort Museum is located on the grounds with displays of resort life from the turn of the century to the present. Other displays show fishing, winter sports, and logging, the industry that is generally credited with ushering in the resort industry.

#15 - Mile 3.1

DNR Walleye Stripping Station

East of CSAH #15 about 1/4 mile on the Driftwood Road is the DNR Station. Active from mid to late April, walleyes are intercepted as they enter the river to spawn. Travelers will be fascinated by this interesting fish management practice. Beware of Poison Ivy.

#15 - Mile 3.8

Deer Lake

Located on the north side of the road just west of Silver Sands Road, this is a rearing lake for walleyes. Often there will be many orange floats and aerators on the lake. Bait dealers also trap leeches in Deer Lake. The traps are visible to the passerby. Some local residents know this body of water as Rat Lake.

#15 - Mile 4.0

Jenkins Township Hall

Operated as a one-room school until the 1950’s, this little white frame building now serves as the Township Hall. Plumbing is yet to come. Township meetings never last too long that way, especially during the winter! See it featured on the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway playing cards.

#15 - Mile 5.9

Willowhurst Farm

This beautiful, farm tucked behind the cornfield, has been in the same family for over 60 years. Drive by viewing only.

#15 - Mile 5.9

Norway Tree Farm

On the west side of the route is the tree farm and on the east side is Willowhurst Farm. True to its name, the tree farm grows primarily Norway pines.

#15 - Mile 6.7

Jenkins Park

Upgraded significantly about 7 years ago, this attractive small town park is used often by the neighborhood families. Travelers are welcome to relax here and enjoy the park. Restrooms are available.
