This is where the north end of CSAH 15 junctions with CSAH 1.
CSAH #15
Jenkins Township Hall
Operated as a one-room school until the 1950’s, this little white frame building now serves as the Township Hall. Plumbing is yet to come. Township meetings never last too long that way, especially during the winter! See it featured on the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway playing cards.
Deer Lake
Located on the north side of the road just west of Silver Sands Road, this is a rearing lake for walleyes. Often there will be many orange floats and aerators on the lake. Bait dealers also trap leeches in Deer Lake. The traps are visible to the passerby. Some local residents know this body of water as Rat Lake.
DNR Walleye Stripping Station
East of CSAH 15 about 1/4 mile on the Driftwood Road is the DNR Walleye Stripping Station. Active from mid to late April, walleyes are intercepted in large nets as they enter the river to spawn. Eggs are manually expressed and fertilized on site and then moved to DNR holding areas where they're grown to either fry or fingerlings before being released back into several Minnesota lakes,
The Pine River
The main water artery into the Whitefish Chain, the Pine River flows into Upper Whitefish Lake just a few miles from this location. Travelers will appreciate the bridge with ‘view through’ sides. There is room to park and go exploring along the shore of the river; a good spot for a picnic and some family photos.
