The DNR’s Fire Tower along County Road 11 between Pequot Lakes and Breezy Point, once a work site for forest rangers scanning the trees for signs of fire, has more recently been enjoyed by residents and visitors as an historic site rich with stories that harken back to the influence of area logging and Paul Bunyan.

Veterans Memorial Walking Trail gets Attention
One of the frequently visited sites along the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway got some extra attention this summer. From June to early August, the north loop of the Veterans Walking Trail was cleaned up and more clearly demarcated. Brush and weeds were removed from the trail itself and posts were set for upcoming trail signage.
Paul Bunyan stories delight Crosby-Ironton kindergartners
The Crosby-Ironton kindergartners learned a little more about Paul Bunyan last Thursday and Friday, May 19 and 20, during their spring field trip to the US Army Corps of Engineers Campground and Recreation area in Crosslake. The site is home to the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association’s Exhibit Room where the young students gathered after lunch to view the world’s largest Paul Bunyan Rag Doll and to hear a little about the Byway itself as well as enjoy some good ol’ Paul Bunyan tall tales.

Paul Bunyan was an invited guest-reader at the March 31 Pajama Night at the Pequot Lakes Library. The Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association’s Brian Peterson took on the role of the big logger at this event for pre-schoolers and their families.
