Barclay Town Hall and rest area
Located on State 84, a little bit east and north of the city of Pine River, you'll find the Barclay Town Hall and Rest area.
"Barclay" comes from the name of George Angus Barclay, the founder of Pine River, established in 1873. He built Barclay's Trading Post, which rested on the shores of the Pine River. He bought, sold and traded goods with trappers, homesteaders, Indians and others who came to this part of Minnesota. Eventually, Barclay built a large hotel in Pine River.
