The Byway Routes Attract Motorcyclists
Twisties, sweeping curves, unpaved and scenic. This is the list of road categories that motorcycleroads.us calls ‘primary characteristics’. Roads are assigned to these categories through information from riders, and other selected sources.
While the scenic category is the most fitting representation for a scenic byway route, the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway’s fifty four miles also provide some of the curves craved by riders as well. The Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway has been submitted for inclusion on motorcycleroads.us and is expected to be a part of that site by May of this year.
One of this area’s Harley motorcycle riders, Rick Beyer, recently gathered up a few friends and traveled the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway with a visitor’s eye. Intent on photographing not only the joy of the scenic ride, but also the fun and relaxation of the Byway and its array of sites, the four riders captured a quilt of compelling images.
In a couple months other riders could find themselves viewing in person the very sites Rick captured on film; maybe snapping some of their own shots. Harley Owners Group, Brainerd Chapter, is the 2012 host for the MN State H.O.G. Rally, slated for June 28 to July 1, 2012. Already linked to their event site, the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway is identified as a recommended riding route for attendees with time to explore the area. Last year’s event in Alexandria drew a crowd of over 600 people. The Brainerd Lakes area is expecting at least that many participants.
