Eagle View Students and KLKS Collaborate in Multimedia

Most people don’t know that Paul Bunyan wasn’t only a giant of a lumberjack, but he was also a fine poet. In fact, he probably was the best lumberjack poet who ever lived. Some old timers still talk about the famous battle of words betwix Paul & Big Cecil, the couplet spouting logger from over in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

You can read more of that Tall Tale yarn,

Or you can, Get your listening ears ready for a special dose of holiday fun!

KLKS radio in Breezy Point and the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association (PBSBA) have teamed up to bring to area listeners a multi-voiced rendition of the PBSBA’s holiday poem, No Ox Can Fly.

Supported by sponsorships from Byway businesses, the two-minute poem will air beginning November 29 and will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays until December 22, 2010.

The recorded poem features the voice of Brian Peterson, a PBSBA board member and occasional Paul Bunyan character. Three other voices have parts in the recording as well.

There’s more!  Eagle View art students in grades 1-5 will participate in a No Ox Can Flyillustration contest. Art teacher, Kelly Crosby, plans to divide the poem into sections and the students into groups.  Each group will be responsible for illustrating their assigned poem section.  The illustrations will be compiled into booklets during the week of December 13-17 and will be ready to submit on December 20, 2010.

The prize for the winning art class is a visit to their classroom from the PBSBA’s Paul Bunyan.  Their booklet will be scanned and displayed on the KLKS website and an article will be written for the local newspaper about the winning art work.  KLKS has also offered to give the winning classroom a tour of the radio station’s studio.

Winners will be announced before Christmas on KLKS by a Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association spokesperson.
