Paul Bunyan Camps with the Corps

The novelty tee shirt featuring the theme, ‘Paul Bunyan Camps With the Corp’, will be available for purchase beginning this summer. It debuted at the November, 2009, Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association’s annual meeting and was an immediate hit.

The tee shirt is the result of an idea conceived a few years ago by Gull Lake Campground manager, Mary Kay Larson, as a way of fulfilling the demand by campers for a souvenir of their stay. Because US Corps of Engineers Campgrounds are not eligible to engage in retail sales at their sites, she and Crosslake Campground manager, Ray Nelson, brought the idea to their Crosslake Corps partner, the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association (PBSBA), asking if they would be interested in taking on the project.

The PBSBA contacted local artist, Braden Palmer, to design the shirt graphics. Certain specification had to be considered when using the Corps logo, and following a couple adjustments for that, the design was approved.

Timing was right to unveil the shirt at the November, 2009, annual meeting as it marked the renewal of the partnership agreement between the US Army Corps of Engineer and the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association, extending that partnership through 2019.

The tee shirt printing will be done by Byway business, Northern Lakes Embroidery, and will be available for purchase at Black Pine Beach Resort beginning this summer. All proceeds from shirt purchases will be donated back to the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association. Other local retailers wishing to carry the shirt in their shops can contact the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association for details.
