Paul & Babe's GeoHunt

Paul & Babe's GeoHunt is a fun summer geocaching event along the 54-mile Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway driving route. Plans are being set for the 2011 event. Check back to this page for the latest information on next year's event.

How does the GeoHunt work?
It's free to participate in Paul & Babe's GeoHunt.

  • Plastic containers (caches) will be camouflaged and hidden on public lands in and around the Byway.
  • Participants search for a cache site by entering the Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates into a GPS unit, which directs them to the general location of the container.
  • Coordinates will be released in groups of 10 throughout the summer. GPS coordinates are available on this page as a download, or visit geocaching.com and search for "Paul & Babe 2010." Local Chamber Information Centers (Pine River, Pequot Lakes or Crosslake) along the Byway also display listings of the coordinates.
  • Once a cache containers is found, you simply add your name to the mini logbook found inside the container, and take away a special Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway collectible card.
  • To earn a Paul & Babe’s GeoHunt Geocoin, verified that you have found the 10 locations in one “region” by showing the numbered cards at select spots along the route. (NOTE: GeoCoins may no longer be earned for the 2010 event.) The GeoCoin is a special wooden nickel that can be traded or kept as a souvenir.

The 2010 GeoHunt concluded on Sat., July 31 with a day of geocaching followed by a barbecue and social at the Crosslake Community Center.

Proceeds from this event support the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association and the Parks & Library Foundation of Crosslake.
